The world’s largest meatpackers have installed Plasma Air’s air purification systems in their U.S. processing plants. The decision comes as pressure increases on food companies to protect workers from growing concerns about airborne transmission of COVID-19.

The World Health Organization acknowledged “evidence emerging” of the airborne spread of the novel coronavirus, Reuters reported.  While U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended meat companies consider ventilation options in work areas with engineers, it has not required any changes to air systems.

JBS installed Plasma Air’s ionization systems in some of its U.S. plants. In third party testing, Plasma Air’s ionizers demonstrated a reduction in Coronavirus surrogate of 99% airborne and 80% on surfaces in just 10 minutes. The technology utilizes bipolar ionization to safely neutralize airborne viruses and bacteria.
